THE UNPUNISHED TRAITOR
This is an account of a man we'll for a few moments refer to as X. X is a darling of the media. He appears on the political talk shows as a pundit, sanctimoniously condemning those with whom he disagrees, professing support for conservative causes and coasting on the success of a syndicated column he now authors alone since his late unlamented partner died and went to hell.
X is the kind of guy many falsely believe to be patriotic. But he's a fake, a long time apologist for the cause of America's Arab enemies who has now sunk to a low , aiding and abetting those who would do the people of the United States great harm. X published the name of a secret American intelligence operative, exposing her to the risk of murder, kidnapping or assault, and jeopardizing the life of everybody who ever met her abroad. The secrecy surrounding intelligence agents is now a matter of federal criminal law, since the exposure of the CIA station chief in Athens lead to his murder several years ago.
Federal prosecutors are now investigating who leaked the story to X. Because things journalists say are often protected by the First Amendment, X may get a pass from having to accept legal responsibility for his treason. But who besides the Creator can give X a pass from moral culpability. We won't keep X's identity a secret. X is none other than Beltway blowhard Robert Novak.
