THE BIG BETRAYAL IN WASHINGTON

I have been a Republican since the age of 18. I am a member of the Hull Republican Town Committee and have been for about 20 years. I have long believed that the Republican Party symbolized the best hopes for all Americans of attaining prosperity through freedom. I have believed that Republicans wanted to limit the size of government, reduce taxes for everybody and return the country to a pre-New Deal ideal of self-reliance, responsibility and fairness.

I have strongly promoted George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, the Party and the principles for which I hope the Party stood.

I am being disappointed.

I am watching what is going on in Washington and I instead see a small clique of wealthy and powerful launching economic warfare against the majority of the American people. At a time when Republicans control both the White House and the Congress, what an opportunity for greatness is being squandered on a program of seemingly mean spirited legislation that caters to special interests.

There have been numerous components to this lost opportunity.

First, is the surrender to the insurance industry. The government is determined to limit class action lawsuits which simply results in the end of access to the courts for people who have been the victims of negligence by large companies. The message being sent is that the Republican Party cares more about the bank accounts of large companies than peoples’ rights. I am sickened by this kind of policy formulation. It tends to prove that everything the Democrats say about Republicans being the party of the heartless rich is probably true.

Second is the surrender to the credit card industry. These rogues who charge 34% per annum compounded annually have destroyed the lives of millions of people and bankruptcy has been the only salvation and hope they have had for making a new beginning. Chapter 7 straight liquidation has been the only way millions of people could get out from below the oppression of usurious credit card interest rates. With the new limitations and restrictions on Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the banksters will have their hooks on people forever. For all the lip service to biblical principles we hear from the Republicans, they forget that bankruptcy laws are biblical in origin, with debts periodically forgiven. They also conveniently forget Jesus’ preaching against lending money at interest, something that might shock the folks at Discover Card and Visa.

Third is the surrender to Health Maintenance Organizations. These outfits make money by charging you for participation in a health plan that they supposedly manage for your benefit. However, if they decide you don’t need something, you are on your own in paying for it. People are dying from the capricious decisions made by HMO’s, but the government wants to protect them from lawsuits. While Republican leaders want citizens to make sacrifices for the common good, they never ask the corporate aristocracy to be accountable for their bad behavior. How about zero tolerance in all directions?

Fourth is the surrender to the pharmaceutical industry, the cost of drugs is a national scandal. The White House is supporting the pharmaceutical industry in its objections to the importation of drugs by senior citizens who must choose between food and drugs. Free trade is fine when it benefits some folks, but not when it benefits consumers.

Fifth is the failure to dismantle the alphabet soup agencies in Washington that are strangling the economy.

Instead, the bully boy storm troopers of the federal mafia remain in place, and invigorated by a plethora of powers to do everything from molesting woman at airport security checkpoints to forcing convicts to do shrink wrapping for Microsoft to monitoring your library and video interests. Its much deeper than this, but those who live with federal benevolence in their lives can tell you all about it.

Our money has shrunk in value. Our automobiles are too expensive to drive due to gas prices from our good friends, the Saudis.

And more and more jobs aren’t here any more because of globalization. The corporate elite has long seen that compliance with American regulations and tax demands is a money losing game. Bangalore, India is becoming the new high tech center. Amazing growth occurs in China, Poland and Malaysia while Boston’s once dynamic Route 128 remains a source of disappointment.

Finally, the Bush commitment to fighting terrorism might not be all that it is cracked up to be.

The Bush family friendship with the petropimps of Saudi Arabia is well documented. The relationship with the Bin laden family and the special treatment given to the Bin Laden family after the mass murder of Americans is also well documented.

The Saudis are still the leading financiers of world terrorism today.

They hold telethons for the murderers of Jewish children in Israel whose only “crime” is that they are Jews. Bush’s answer to the Saudi murder of Israeli children is to coerce Israel to withdraw from the Gaza strip, where most of the terrorists live. In a sovereign Gaza, they will be inventing new and more dangerous forms of terrorism.

Financial support for the Al Qaeda and for the sleeper cells ready to creepy crawl into our nuclear power plants is well documented again to have come from members of the Saudi Royal Family.

In fact, lawsuits are being brought by the victims and survivors of the September 11 attacks against members of the Saudi Royal family for their complicity.

Now what kind of lawyer did the Saudis pick?

How about the same lawyer who always turns up representing the Bush family?

None other than lead petropimp himself, James Baker, former Secretary of State who will go down in history for one great quotation. “Fuck the Jews, they don’t vote for us anyway.”

Is it any wonder that the Saudis, who financed the bombing of the World Trade Center and Pentagon, feel at home with this creep? Meanwhile, the Saudi Arabia Accountability Act is being strongly opposed by the Bush State Department. It would restrict relations with Saudi Arabia until they crackdown on incitements to terror within their own borders and stop funding terrorism.

I know there are two sides to every story, and the Democrats have bigger flaws, and are even less committed to individual and economic freedom.

But it is becoming obvious that the top Republicans are even cynically abusing their biggest supporters. The born again Christians, who tend to be poorer, who tend to give to the GOP till it hurts because they consider it a religious mitzvoh, (obligation) are from the same strata that feels the effects of the callous disregard the top Republicans demonstrate for the less affluent.

The purported GOP opposition to abortion, porn and homosexual marriage gets Bible believing folk stirred up to vote Republican, but they are just being cynically manipulated so the folks at the top can sell the country out to the lobbyists for banks, insurance peddlers, stockbrokers and drug companies.

Before you call me a liberal, read this article again. I want economic freedom, not government control. I want constitutional rights for all, not special privileges for well connected companies.

And I believe that the White House and State Department’s continued friendship with Saudi Arabia, the murderers of over 3000 Americans, is an insult to every American.

Votes should not go to a candidate just because he is a Republican. Ideas and deeds must count as well. My country is being swindled.

Do I intend to leave the Party? Absolutely not, I will not hand the corporate insiders a victory by default.

I can only urge grassroots Republicans to take the Party back.
